Online Safety with a VPN
We’ve used NordVPN for years and always recommend it when travelling. Think of it like a secure tunnel for your internet, especially handy when you’re using public Wi-Fi at airports, hotels, or cafes. Without it, your personal details (like passwords or bank info) can be easier to steal. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) helps keep your connection private and lets you access your usual websites and streaming services, even if they’re blocked in the country you’re visiting. It’s a simple cost-effective way to stay safe online while travelling.
Do I Need a Visa?
Many countries will require a visa to visit and a quick search online for where to get a visa will often display multiple sites all claiming to offer the best price and service. Experience has taught us that there are unfortunately a lot of scam sites which often appear before the official websites of the country you plan to visit. These malicious sites often look official but are in fact designed to deceive. It is for this reason that we use and recommend a company called IVISA. They are a well-respected company and often go above and beyond to provide outstanding service.
Experience Oz
Planning an adventure in Australia? Look no further than Experience OZ. This well respected Australian owned tour and experience operator has over 4,000 experiences waiting to be discovered Australia wide. They regularly offer discounts and specials not found elsewhere and we are proud to partner with them and pass the savings onto our readers. Check below for the latest deals.
Internet Access
Internet access is crucial during travels and gone are the days of mucking around with physical Sim cards when arriving at a new destination. If you have a smartphone purchased within the last few years, it’s likely your phone supports eSims. We now only travel with eSims as they are not only convenient but often provide access to multiple countries within a region and many plans offer unlimited data for the duration of the plan you choose. The company we use and recommend is Simify which consistently have competitive prices.
Travel Savings on Hotel Accommodation
Our travelling lifestyle requires us to book a lot of hotels and booking.com is the main platform we keep coming back to for our hotel accommodation. It’s easy to use and because we use it so often, we now have genius level 3 status which gives us discounts on stays and one of the benefits of brand loyalty. Bookings made via Booking.com often include free cancellation which is helpful if your travel plans need to be altered prior to your stay.
Viator Tours
Viator is one of the largest companies in the tour and experiences space and often have special promotions with discounts on local tours. To get the most out of a destination stay it often pays to book a tour rather than trying to see everything yourself. Viator is one of the largest tour platforms operating worldwide and consistently have a large range to tours and experiences to suit all budgets.
Get Your Guide Tours
Get Your Guide is also one of the largest companies in the tour and experiences space with large range to tours and experiences to suit all budgets. You will sometimes find tours listed on Get Yor Guide that are not always available on other tour booking platforms so it’s worthwhile checking. Our experience with Get Your Guide to Viator is that they are both offer similar torus but sometimes they may slightly differ depending on the individual tour.
Klook Tours
Klook is another popular company in the tour and transport space with diverse range of tours and experiences. Our experience has found they are popular in Asian destinations and gaining popularity in Australia. We have used Klook to book tours and transportation tickets for destinations in Asia including Hong Kong, Vietnam, South Korea and Japan that we haven’t been able to find on the other booking platforms. It is worthwhile checking Klook especially if you are visiting Asia.

Travel Money
Accessing local currency or paying for services while abroad can be expensive. Over many years we tried multiple different options such as travel cards, travel debit cards, credit cards and cash. The option that works best for us is using the WISE debit card. With the WISE card you pre-load your home currency then convert it to local currency within the WISE App at the current market rate. Withdrawing from an ATM then allows you to withdraw in local currency without hefty conversion fees. It has been a game changer for us, with significant savings on money withdrawals over the years of travel.
