We have stayed at a variety of international airport hotels in destinations across the world. When choosing airport accommodation, we take into consideration the proximity to the airport, access to airport transport, room service or nearby dining options, late checkout and most importantly, comfortable rooms.
With your comfort in mind we have compiled a list of some of the best airport hotels worldwide. We start with our home country of Australia.
Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel
Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel is located directly across the road from Sydney International Airport, the perfect location for those early morning international flights. For those with connecting domestic flights, the hotel offers free transfers to and from the Domestic Terminal.
We found the bedding to be heavenly, so comfortable after our day of flying from Bundaberg-Brisbane-Sydney, we woke up refreshed ready to tackle our 16 hour long haul flight.
The room has tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar, room safe, iron, cable TV and the rooms are soundproofed from aircraft noise. There are a choice of room types to choose from including wheelchair accessible, family rooms and suites.
You can relax and enjoy the Australian inspired menu at the hotels onsite restaurant and bar or chill out with room service. The hotel is a much needed retreat for any weary traveller.
Mercure Sydney Airport Hotel
Mercure Sydney Airport Hotel is located near the peaceful riverside setting of Cahill Park. Airport transfers are available via Airport Shuttle bus (fees apply).
The hotel rooms are tastefully furnished with work desk, tea and coffee making facilities, safe and iron. The beds are comfortable and have a pillow menu selection. Free wifi is available in the foyer.
Hotel has an onsite bar and restaurant and in room dining with an extensive room service menu.
Ibis Sydney Airport Hotel
The Ibis Sydney Airport Hotel is a budget friendly hotel compared to other airport hotels in the area. Though the rooms are compact, they don’t sacrifice on comfort and include tea and coffee making facilities, fridge, hairdryer and iron. The hotel has reduced mobility rooms that have wheelchair access.
The onsite restaurant and bar serve buffet breakfasts, meals and drinks. In room dining is available 24 hours from the room service menu.
Airport transfers can be arranged with an Airport Shuttle bus (fees apply).
Sydney Airport Train to Sydney CBD
The Sydney Airport train has good links from Sydney’s International and Domestic Airports to downtown Sydney. Popular stations include St James Station, Circular Quay Station and Town Hall Station as they are close to entertainment and tourist attractions.
If you are spending a large amount of time in Sydney, consider purchasing a tap and go Opal Card, a reusable smart card that can be used on trains, buses, ferries and light rail.
Pullman Brisbane Airport
What I love most about the Pullman Brisbane Airport Hotel is that it is a short walk from Brisbane’s Domestic Airport. From the moment you enter this stylish hotel, you forget the airport madness and begin to relax.
The rooms are comfortable and clean, with comfy beds and pillow menu. The room has a Nespresso machine, kettle, mini bar and safe.
There are a selection of rooms that include executive rooms and suites which have access to the Executive Lounge with complimentary breakfast, evening drinks and canapes. Hotel facilities include restaurant, bar, pool and fitness centre.
Like many romantic hotels, the Pullman Brisbane Airport has a reputation for fine dining, the refined elegance of the Apron Restaurant is pleasing to the eye as well as the palate. The Hotel has an extensive room service menu for in room dining.
Novotel Brisbane Airport
The Novotel Brisbane Airport is a short shuttle ride from Brisbane International and Domestic Airports. The rooms and beds are comfortable, with work desk, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar and safe. The hotel has a choice of rooms and suites that are wheelchair friendly.
The hotel’s onsite restaurant and bar is the perfect place to sample modern Australian cuisine. For a quiet night in, try the room service menu for in room dining. Hotel Facilities include pool and fitness centre.
Novotel Brisbane Airport has the added attraction of being located next to the DFO shopping outlets, a shopper’s paradise with a huge array of dining options.
Catching the Airtrain to Brisbane CBD
There are lots of transport options from Brisbane International and Domestic Airport, including taxi and shuttle bus but the most convenient is the Airtrain.
The journey from Brisbane Domestic and International Airports to Brisbane CBD takes 20 minutes and stops include Central, Roma Street and South Bank Stations. The Airtrain also has connections to the Gold Coast, a major Australian seaside destination.
London England – Gatwick Airport
Hilton London Gatwick Airport Hotel
There are many Gatwick Airport hotels to choose from, but our favourite is the Hilton London Gatwick Airport Hotel. We have stayed at the Hilton on numerous occasions and like it because it has easy transport links to central London.
The Hilton London Gatwick Airport Hotel feels like a home away from home, perfect for those late night and early morning flights.
The room decor is rich and warm, comfortable and best of all, quiet! The bed and pillows are comfy making for a restful night’s sleep. Room facilities include mini bar, iron, hairdryer and 24-hour room service.
Other room styles include wheelchair accessible rooms, family rooms, executive and luxury hotel suites. The hotel also has accessibility features for visually and hearing-impaired guests
The Hilton London Gatwick Airport Hotel boasts an Executive Lounge which provides complimentary breakfast dishes, snacks, evening canapes and drinks. With meeting rooms and business centre, the Hilton is the perfect business hotel.
The lobby is welcoming with a choice of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. If you are looking for a quick snack, there is a Marks & Spencer located in the South Terminal.
Gatwick Airport to London
Gatwick Airport can be reached from central London by Gatwick Express from London Victoria Station. Trains run every 15 minutes between 5 am – 8:45 pm (05:00 – 20:45) with a journey time of around 30 minutes.
The Gatwick express terminates at the South Terminal of Gatwick Airport, from there follow the signs to the Hilton Hotel. For flights departing from the North Terminal, follow the North Terminal signs to the free monorail for a smooth ride between terminals.
Gatwick Airport South Terminal train station has train services to destinations across the United Kingdom.
London England – Heathrow Airport
Mercure London Heathrow Hotel
There are a choice of Heathrow airport hotels, but we chose the Mercure London Heathrow Hotel because it’s a short shuttle bus ride (3 km – 2 miles) from Heathrow Airport.
The hotel rooms are modern with fresh clean decor. The bed and pillows are heavenly, the rooms comfortable with a work desk, tea and coffee making facilities, fridge, hairdryer and iron.
If you are hungry you can visit the onsite restaurant which serves a variety of international dishes or choose a dish from the room service menu. For traditional pub fare, the Great Western pub and restaurant is a short stroll down the road.
The hotel has wheelchair access and reduced mobility rooms with accessible bathrooms. Other facilities and services include a gym and business centre and late checkout to 6 pm (fee applies).
Heathrow Airport to London
The Mercure London Heathrow has airport shuttle connections to Heathrow Airport every 40 minutes between 4 am – 11 pm (0400 – 2300).
The hotel is located just off the M4 motorway and is a 20 minute drive to Windsor Castle and Legoland. The Hayes and Harlington railway station is 1.6 km (1 mile) from the hotel and has GWR rail connections to London Paddington Station.
The Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport Hotel
With an early flight out of Glasgow we chose to stay at the Holiday Inn Glasgow Airport Hotel. We were happy with our choice because it is directly across the road from the Glasgow Airport.
The rooms were warm and cosy, a welcome relief from the chilly Scottish weather outside. Along with comfortable bed there was a choice of pillow menu. The room had tea and coffee making facilities, work desk and a room service menu.
We enjoyed dinner at Traders Restaurant and a complimentary full Scottish breakfast was included in our room booking. We found the Staff to be friendly and helpful.
Glasgow Airport to Glasgow CBD
Glasgow Airport is located close to the M8 motorway near Paisley, a 20 minutes drive from central Glasgow. Glasgow Airport Express bus service takes around 15 minutes to reach Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow city centre, buses depart from the airport every 10 minutes.
Citizen M Schiphol Hotel Amsterdam
Choosing hotels near an airport after a late night flight is often a good idea. We arrived at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport tired and exhausted after a 24 hour flight, all we wanted to do is find a bed, thankfully the Citizen M Schiphol Hotel was a short walk away.
I am so glad we booked this hotel, the lobby has a slick modern vibe and though the rooms are compact, they are well designed for relaxation and comfort, making this our favourite international airport hotel.
Overtired, with my head still buzzing, I stepped into the futuristic shower pod and began to feel halfway human as the powerful spray of the rain shower took away the day’s tension.
The rooms specially designed mood lighting soothed us and before we knew it we were drifting off to dreamland. The bed and fluffy pillows made us feel like we were floating on a cloud. We had fantastic night’s sleep and woke feeling refreshed, ready to meet the day ahead.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam
Getting into central Amsterdam from Schiphol Airport is easy. Trains from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Centraal Station have a journey time of around 20 minutes.
The Schiphol Airport train station is right next to the airport. Here you can catch trains to other cities in Holland or destinations across Europe.
The Park Inn by Radisson Airport Hotel Copenhagen
The Park Inn by Radisson Airport Hotel Copenhagen can be easily reached by metro from Copenhagen Airport. Take the 3-minute train ride (2 stops) to Femoren Station, exit and take the short walk to the hotel.
After a late night flight, we found the room to be cosy and quiet, perfect for a good night’s sleep. We started the morning with a delicious breakfast which featured a selection of Scandinavian and international dishes.
The area has a network of walking paths that overlook the sparkling waters of the Oresund Strait. We went for an early morning walk in this picture perfect setting, enjoying the crisp winter air and admiring the multi coloured boats in the sailing club marina.
Copenhagen Airport to Copenhagen CBD
The Park Inn by Radisson Airport Hotel Copenhagen can be reached by taking the Metro two stops from the Airport to Femøren station. Exit the station, turn left and take the short walk to the hotel. Femøren station has lift access for luggage.
Metro from Femoren station to Central Copenhagen takes around 10 minutes.
Ibis Styles Geneve Palexpo Aeroport Hotel
The philosophy of providing comfort for weary travellers while making the most of a small space is showcased in the Ibis Styles Geneve Palexpo Aeroport Hotel’s well-designed rooms.
Though small the rooms are comfortable, wheelchair accessible and you can request an interconnecting family room. The hotel has an onsite restaurant and bar which serves a light buffet breakfast.
The hotel is close to the Palexpo Exhibition and Conference Centre, making it the perfect business hotel for the business traveller visiting Geneva.
Getting to the Hotel and Central Geneva
Take the No 5 bus from the Geneva Airport in the direction of Thonex Vallard. The closest bus stop to the Ibis Styles Geneve Palexpo Aeroport Hotel is Grand-Sacconex, Palexpo. To get into central Geneva continue on the No 5 bus toward Thonex Vallard until you get to Gare Cornavin train station.
To return to Geneva Airport from central Geneva, take the No 5 Geneve Aeroport bus.
Transport around Geneva is easy, after checking into your hotel you will be entitled to a Geneva Transport Card. This transport card allows you to travel on Geneva’s public transport system for free. Transport includes buses, trains and yellow taxi boats (mouettes). Be sure to ask about the Geneva Transport Card at reception on arrival.
San Francisco USA
Crown Plaza San Francisco Airport Hotel
The first thing we liked about the Crown Plaza San Francisco Airport Hotel was the fact that it has a free airport shuttle. We arrived in San Francisco after a 14.5-hour flight from Australia. We had an early flight the next morning and all we wanted to do was stretch out in a comfortable bed and get a good night’s sleep.
The Crown Plaza San Francisco Airport Hotel certainly delivered, the room was spacious and clean, the beds comfortable and we really appreciated the tea and coffee maker and in room dining.
There is an onsite restaurant and bar, as well as room service options. The hotel is wheelchair accessible and has hearing and vision impaired accessibility features. There are a range of room styles including family rooms and suites, a fitness centre and pool.
San Francisco Airport to central San Francisco
The Crown Plaza San Francisco airport Hotel has a free shuttle bus that stops at all terminals at San Francisco Airport. From the Airport you can catch the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transport) into central San Francisco with a journey time of around 30 minutes.
Holiday Inn Santiago – Airport Terminal Hotel
Santiago traffic can be hectic and depending on your location, it’s not unusual to be stuck in traffic for hours. With a 4:20 am flight to Peru we decided it would be wise to spend the night at a hotel near the airport.
We chose Holiday Inn Santiago – Airport Terminal Hotel, which is conveniently located directly across the road from Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport.
The rooms and beds are comfortable, with a selection of pillows from the pillow menu. The room has tea and coffee making facilities, blackout shades, in room safe, iron, work desk and sitting area.
Hotel facilities include disability access, a business centre, swimming pool and fitness centre.
You can relax with a drink in the hotels cocktail lounge or dine at the Grill Restaurant. The room service menu provides a selection of in room dining options. Or grab a light snack from one of the fast food outlets at the airport.
Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport to Santiago CBD
Below are a number transfer options to and from central Santiago. Just remember to allow plenty of time when travelling to the airport as Santiago traffic can be congested.
Regal Airport Hotel
With a late-night arrival and early morning departure the Regal Airport Hotel was a welcome sight. The hotel is a short walk from the arrival’s hall, and we were looking forward to a bed after a long haul-flight.
The hotel has a choice of room styles, including disability accessible rooms, family rooms, Executive Club rooms. Suites range from Spa and Apartment Suites to the luxurious Presidential Suite.
Room facilities include sitting area, desk, tea and coffee making facilities, free wifi and room safe. All rooms are soundproofed, and Executive Club rooms have access to the Executive Club Lounge which serves complimentary breakfast, refreshments and evening cocktails.
Hotel facilities include functions rooms, pool, fitness, spa and wellness centre.
The hotel has six restaurants and bars that showcase a mix of Shanghainese, Cantonese, Japanese, American and International cuisines. In room dining is available from the 24-hour room service menu.
The Novotel Citygate Hotel
The Novotel Citygate Hotel is a short airport shuttle ride from Hong Kong International Airport on Chek Lap Kok Island. The hotel provides a free shuttle bus service to and from the airport between 6 am and 11:40 pm daily.
With comfortable rooms and fine dining, the Novotel Citygate Hotel is a treasure for those with a long layover. Rooms include tea and coffee making facilities, room safe, iron, minibar, desk and in room dining options.
There are a selection of room styles including wheelchair accessible rooms, Executive Premier rooms and suites. Executive Premier rooms and suites give access to the Premier Lounge which offers free breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and canapes.
Hotel facilities include a choice of 4 restaurants and bar, function rooms, swimming pool and gym.
Citygate Outlets Shopping Mall and Big Buddha
The Novotel Citygate Hotel is connected to the Citygate Outlets shopping mall. Citygate Outlets sells brands such as Burberry, Adidas and Polo Ralf Lauren at heavily discounted prices, a shopaholic heaven.
Novotel Citygate Hotel is also a short walk to the Ngong Ping cable car that will take you up to the Big Buddha Statue and the Wisdom Path.
Tung Chung MTR line to Kowloon
Tung Chung MTR station is within walking distance to the Ngong Ping cable car, Citygate Outlets and Novotel Citygate Hotel.
The Tung Chung MTR line stops at Kowloon and Hong Kong Station, popular areas for tourist hotels. The Tung Chung MTR line train to central Hong Kong has a journey time of around 28 minutes and is a cheaper option to the Airport Express.
Hong Kong Airport Express to Kowloon
Getting to central Hong Kong from Hong Kong Airport is easy. The Airport Express leaves from Hong Kong Airport and will have you exploring the sights of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island Station in around 25 minutes.
Village Hotel Changi (by Far East Hospitality)
Though not as close to the Airport as we first thought, the Village Hotel Changi gave great value for money. Our Executive Club room booking included free Airport shuttle to and from Changi Airport, late check out, breakfast and a complimentary Airport Lounge pass for two hours.
We have stayed at this hotel twice and though the decor is a little tired, we really loved the location, it was like taking a mini holiday between flights. Check out our Village Hotel Changi review…
The hotel is within walking distance to Changi Beach Park and the Changi Point Terminal Ferry, the perfect place for an early morning walk. The area has an authentic Singaporean feel and for a dash of local colour it’s fun to visit the hawker centres that sell a range of classic regional dishes.
Changi Airport to Singapore by MRT
Taking the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) train from Changi Airport to central Singapore is super easy. Take the green line to Tanah Merah, exit the train and continue on green line 2. Popular tourist areas on the green line 2 include Bugis, Raffles Place and City Hall. These areas have a great selection of hotels and are close to tourist attractions.
The Mariya Boutique Residence
The Mariya Boutique Residence is a budget airport hotel with the added convenience of a free Airport shuttle from Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok.
We have stayed at this hotel many times and find the room and bedding comfortable. The room has the added bonus of having tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge, microwave and cable TV stations.
There is a 7-ELEVEN within walking distance to the hotel for light meals and snacks or you can try one of the local restaurants and bars nearby. Free tea, coffee and juice are available in the lobby.
The Hotel does not have a lift, but helpful stuff will take your bags up to the room.
Bangkok Airport Train to Bangkok City
There are a few different ways to get from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport including taxi, airport shuttle, bus and the Bangkok Airport Rail Link.
With Bangkok traffic being one of the busiest on the planet, the Airport Rail Link is often considered the quickest way to get to downtown Bangkok.
Operating from 6 am until midnight, the Airport Rail Link connects to Phetchaburi MRT Station at Makkasan City Interchange Station and the BTS Skytrain at Phaya Thai Station.
