To me one of the top places to shop in Hong Kong are the markets. Some of the best markets in Hong Kong can be found in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. I love them all, but my favourite would have to be Stanley Market Hong Kong Island.
Stanley Market Hong Kong
Stanley Market is one of the most popular Hong Kong Island markets and considered one of the best street markets in Hong Kong. Not only does it have an exquisite range of quality clothing, artwork and curios, the drive out to Stanley Market is simply stunning!
Within 15 minutes you can be leaving Hong Kong’s majestic city landscape and immersing yourself in the misty greenery of the mountains. These wide-open spaces are at odds with the popular image of Hong Kong and comes as a surprised to many visitors.
Luxury apartments and exquisite mansions seemingly defy gravity as they sit precariously along the mountains edge. All compete for the best views of the swimming beaches of Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay.
Lush subtropical foliage covers these rugged mountains as they fall sharply and disappear into the deep waters of the picturesque coves below.
Stanley Market Shopping
If you are looking for cheap shopping in Hong Kong, Stanley street markets may have to be a little further down your list of markets to visit. While Stanley Market has shops that sell cheap clothing, trinkets and souvenirs, they are best known for their quality garments and artisan galleries.

Stanley Market shopkeepers are proud of their merchandise so expect to pay more for the quality of their items. While the prices may be slightly higher than other Hong Kong markets, you will still find discounted prices that are cheaper than your home country.
Women’s Clothing and Jewellery at Stanley
Stanley Market is a mecca for women’s clothing. The markets have a variety of boutiques selling an assortment of clothing including classic evening wear, office wear and casual day wear.
Fashion styles include figure hugging wrap dresses, cool avantgarde linen designs in a multitude of colours and chic easy wear styles to suit every figure and occasion. Best of all Stanley Markets sell clothing in larger sizes to fit Western curves.
Each outfit can be accessorised from the markets terrific range of jewellery, a collection comprising of exquisite pearls, necklaces in a host of colours and funky chunky modern pieces.
Paintings and Homewares
If you are looking for home decorator ideas, look no further than Stanley Markets! Just walking through the markets, you will be astounded by the quality of the artwork and home decorator items available.
Stanley Market is a home maker’s dream and may just be the place to find that little something you’ve been searching for. The market has an interesting assortment of Chinese arts and crafts, modern ornamental pieces and paintings that will suit most styles of décor.

Getting to Stanley Markets
There are a few ways to get to Stanley Markets, you can either book a Hop on Hop off Bus tour, take the local bus or hire a taxi to Stanley Markets, the choice is yours.

Bus from Exchange Square to Stanley Markets
Local buses to Stanley Markets can be caught from Exchange Square Bus Terminus on Hong Kong Island. The bus terminus is located directly across the road from Hong Kong MTR station at Exit D.
You can either take the 260X and 6X express buses or bus 6 which has a longer more scenic route. All buses take you past the beautiful inlets and swimming beaches of Deep Water Bay and Repulse Bay.
The journey to Stanley can take over an hour depending on what route you take and should be considered as a day’s outing. Stay on the bus until you get to Stanley Village and you will find the markets across the road. Don’t exit the bus at Stanley Plaza.
The Hong Kong Octopus Card is accepted on the Hong Kong buses, the MTR, Star Ferry and Hong Kong trams, they are an easy form of payment, just swipe the card as you enter the bus. Top ups can be done at the station or at one of the 7-Eleven stores throughout the city.
We highly recommend the Octopus Card and believe it is a must for anyone visiting Hong Kong. They can be pre-purchased online before you leave home and collected at the Airport upon arrival.

Hong Kong Taxi’s
You will find Hong Kong’s iconic red taxi’s everywhere; they are a quick and convenient alternative to the Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus Tour and local bus.
Other Things to do in Stanley Hong Kong
Don’t just visit Stanley for the markets, the area has a laid-back vibe which is only enhanced by the views of Stanley Bay.
Stanley Waterfront Mart & Restaurants
Take a walk along Stanley Waterfront Mart promenade and watch as cargo ships make their way across the bay.
Enjoy the views while eating a leisurely lunch in one of the many restaurants and bars that line the waterfront. There is a selection of cuisines to choose from including English pub meals, Mexican, Pizza and of course the local Chinese favourites.
Stanley Tin Hau Temple
Located next to Stanley Plaza is the Stanley Tin Hau Temple which was founded in 1767. The temple is dedicated to Tin Hau, the Empress of Heaven. Tin Hau was born around 960 and died at the age of 27, she is recognised for her life of holiness and miracles.
The temple was bombed by the Japanese in 1942 but miraculously the bombs didn’t explode, saving the crowds of people taking shelter inside.
Blake Pier Stanley
Take a stroll back in time along Blake Pier and rediscover the charms of yesteryear. Blake Pier has had an interesting life, it was formerly known as Pedder Wharf and was originally located in Central. Blake Pier has moved several times and now takes pride and place at Stanley.
Shopping at Murray House and Stanley Plaza
If you are still in the mood for shopping, head over to the air-conditioned comfort of Murray House and Stanley Plaza. Here you will find the usual brands, McDonald’s and Starbucks Café.

To me one of the best places to shop in Hong Kong are the markets, they have their own unique atmosphere and some of the best shopping in Hong Kong.
Stanley Market Hong Kong stands out as one of my favourites, not just for the shopping but for the beauty of the area. The drive out to Stanley Markets has some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, a green breathing space from one of the busiest regions in Asia.
Good quality products, Western sizes and a fun atmosphere make a visit to Stanley Markets an absolute must when visiting Hong Kong.
