A relaxing stay at Tresor d’Angkor Suite Siem Reap
We arrived in Siem Reap after a long journey from Chiang Mai in neighbouring Thailand, we climbed into a tuk tuk and were whisked through the chaotic streets of this exotic city to our home for the next two nights, the Tresor d’Ankor Suite.
We entered the cool open-air foyer of our Siem Reap accommodation, pools of water played host to fish that swam between the tropical plants that decorate the pond. We settled into the comfortable sitting area of the foyer and were welcomed with a refreshing glass of lemon tea.
We were greeted by Tresor d’Angkor Suites friendly staff and taken through lush tropical gardens to the veranda of our Villa style accommodation in Siem Reap. The veranda of our Villa overlooked the deep blue waters of the swimming pool, the perfect place to sit with a cool drink of an evening.
Our room at Tresor d’Angkor Suite
Our room was decorated in black, grey and white tones, the lime green striped cushions of the sitting area add a dash of colour to the modern décor of the room. Taking centre stage is the king-size bed which was made up with crisp white linen.
Black wooden furniture added contrast and was home to the tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary water. The wardrobe contains a minibar, room safe, robes and slippers.
The entry to the bathroom is framed by shear white curtains highlighting the bath and large windows that overlook the private garden. The contemporary bathroom is huge, with grey polished concrete walls and high ceilings that add an air of spaciousness. Separate rainwater shower, bath, bathroom areas give privacy.
We had a wonderful night’s sleep at Tresor d’Angkor Suite, the bed and pillows were one of the most comfortable I have slept in, we woke up feeling refreshed and ready to welcome the new day.
What’s on the Menu?
It was soon time for a pre-dinner drink which we enjoyed while watching the sunset over the pool from the rooftop Tresor Sky Lounge. We returned to Tresor d’Ankor Suites intimate restaurant, the relaxed atmosphere meant that we didn’t have to dress up, casual clothing is acceptable only adding to the chill, peaceful vibe of the hotel.
The restaurant serves a range of Western and Asian cuisine, we decided to try traditional Khmer dishes of Fish Amok and Chicken Curry. Living in Thailand we are used to the spicy cuisine of the region and were surprised to find two very different cuisines for countries so close together. The dishes we tried were lightly spiced, good news for anyone who doesn’t like spicy food.
The herbs in the Fish Amok infused a delicate flavour into the coconut sauce while the chunky root vegetables and beans of the Chicken Curry made for a healthy filling meal. Both dishes were delicious and served with steamed rice which we enjoyed with a glass of wine.
Breakfast was a treat with the choice of continental breakfast buffet or a selection of cooked Western and Asian dishes. Alan chose the Tresor Breakfast of eggs, sausages, bacon, ham, grilled potatoes and tomato, while I decided to go with an Asian style breakfast of Chicken Pho Soup, both were delicious and washed down with a full flavoured coffee.
Where is Tresor d’Angkor Suite?
The Tresor d’Ankor Suite is 2.4 kilometres from the centre of Siem Reap. The town centre can be easily reached by the hotels complimentary shuttle bus.
Taking the shuttle bus into Siem Reap we decided to visit the local markets. We had so much fun exploring the tight alleyways of this shoppers paradise where you will find a treasure trove of clothing, silver trinkets, Khmer handicrafts and so much more. It’s also the place to watch locals as they go about their daily shop for fresh vegetables and produce at the food markets.
At night the centre of Siem Reap transforms into a wonderland of light. Pub Street beckons with its bright lights and vibrant atmosphere which has the whole area humming with activity.
Tresor d’Angkor Suites complimentary shuttle bus runs between 6am and 9pm at night. There is also a free pickup and drop off service from Siem Reap Airport and Bus Station.
Tresor d’Angkor Suite in house activities
For those wanting to relax and unwind after a busy day of sightseeing in Siem Reap, there are a choice of spa treatments on offer. Alan chose a full body massage while I had a foot massage, both were performed in the privacy of our room and ended with a heavenly head and neck massage which left us feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Tresor d’Angkor Suite host Khmer cooking classes. Not only do you experience the taste of Cambodia but also get to visit a typical food market to learn more about the ingredients used in this delicious cuisine. There is a choice of dishes to choose from, whether it be Beef Lok Lak, Fish Amok or Chicken Curry you will be intrigued by the detail that goes into traditional Khmer cuisine.
